Winter school on the Arctic Ocean in Goa, India
Last week we held a winter school at the National Center for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR) in Goa, India. 30 students from across India, as well as Russia and China, came together to learn about the current state of the Arctic and areas of active research in the physical, biological, and social sciences. The Norwegian ambassador to India kicked-off the school by celebrating the long history of Indo-Norwegian cooperation in research, and highlighting the current and future importance of the Arctic.
The students had a highly diverse range of backgrounds and interest ranging from oceanography, atmospheric dynamics, glaciology, through to the biological sciences; and we had sessions devoted to each of these topics. The students were set the ambitious challenge of pooling together their combined expertise to give a holistic view of the state of the Arctic and Arctic research, as well as give some perspective as to how their research can be used to inform international policy in the Arctic.
